allow 2 hrs to drive from Hopewell to Joggins. That is drive time, not taking into account any stops for gas if needed, or photo ops of the wonderful Maritime scenery
Thank you! Our plan is to leave St. Andrews at 9am and drive straight to Hopewell Rock (3 1/2 - 4 hrs??) spend a couple of hours at Hopewell Rocks and drive to Joggins arriving at 5:30pm??. Is it possible to see the Fossils that late in the day (Sept. 7th) as I realize that the visitors' center will be closed???
For people that aren't familiar with spotting the fossils, they are usually very hard to spot in the sedimentary layers of the beach at Joggins. The center gives beach walks and interpretation that are a huge part of the Joggins experience. You can find fossils at many beaches in this part of the province, but the same thing - you need to know what you are looking for/at.
I agree. Why not skip Hopewell and see the similar Three Sisters in the Advocate Area?
We would love to see both!!! Thank you all for your help! New plan :
Sleep in St. Andrews - get an early start and end up in Hopewell Cape around 12:30 or 1pm. Spend 2 or 3 hours there, and head directly to Parrsboro to sleep. In the am - Fundy Museum -then on to Advocate Harbor - and if we haven't seen any fossils - head towards Joggins. Then onto Halifax to sleep.
How much time should we allow for Hopewell Cape?? Advocate Harbor???
Good Morning Evertravel. Looking at the tide charts for the time you are here is a consideration with a trip planned for both Hopewell rocks and Joggins as the tide is your best friend of worst enemy. Sept 5/11 high tide is at 06:13, so on the 7th it will be approx. 08:00 am. After your day at Hopewell (tide is in your favor and heading out in the morning), why not enter Nova Scotia and stay in Amherst. The next morning you can get to Joggins, with lots of time to explore as the tide recedes (a guided tour is very interesting), on to Advocate and Cape D'or (one of the nicest lighthouses to visit), and head to Halifax following the coastline by Five Islands, The Dutchmen's farm at Upper Economy for some homemade Gouda. Maybe some of these Ideas will help in your decisions! Should you need more info just ask!
Have a great day and fun planning!
