Christmas Week

Group of friends are planning to head up to Mont Tremblant from Toronto on the 21st for a 3- or 4-day snowboarding trip. This will be our first time going up there - we have always went to Blue Mountain in the past.

I understand 26th onwards would be extremely busy, but how about our planned dates? Would all runs be open by then? How's the temperature like? Should we expect consistent -15C or less? Anything else we should be aware of?

Thank you!

The whole of Xmas week is very busy, except Xmas day itself. That is the day to get up early and enjoy the mountain in peace.

Some years there have been five runs open other years there have been 60 runs open. The hill has about 100 runs and it is rare to see all of them open. We never know what snow will arrive or whether temps will be cool enough to make snow.

It will certainly be below 0 but it can vary wildly.

If you like to go in the parks, rails etc, make sure you buy the park pass as you need it to enter.

Thanks bogwoppit. It is highly unlikely that we will stay until the 25th as we are leaning more on it being a 3-day trip.

I guess we will keep an eye out on how many runs are open. Would be a shame to drive there for just 5 runs. Although we did that with Blue Mountain for the past 2 years - and managed to enjoy it, moderately - this would be a lot further and pricier.

Definitely watch the Tremblant site.

Here is a tip, however many runs they say are open divide it by at least two. They are renowned for exaggerating the runs open and have achieved this by naming very tiny stretches that link two trails together.

Also feel free to ask here.

Things will be less crowded but no less festive in the week before Christmas. As you are thinking of going Dec 21-24, lodging will be somewhat cheaper and lift lines shorter. That is good news.

No guarantees re snow, of course, but Tremblant has good snow making capability if the temperatures are below freezing (which they usually are that time of December).

The freezing températures, at least at night, are almost always there on top of the mountain. So you can go up and ski to about halfway down if not more. I don't ski but one of my buddy does almost every day starting in early December except between Christmas and New Year and during Spring Breaks when there are too many people around for his taste.

Tremblant can be very cold but it should not be a problem if you're prepared for it. Pack a face mask!

Of course Tremblant will ruin Blue Mountain for you, its a real mountain.
