An evening in Auckland?

Hello! We are flying in from the US that day and will arrive at 2:30pm. After going through customs, driving into our hotel it will probably be pretty late. Is there any area that would be fun to check out for the evening? Any beaches close by? We are leaving the next morning, but thought we better make the most of it when we are there. Thanks for your input!

From central Auckland, the closest beach would be Devonport (with a short ferry ride) - you could catch some sunshine there and then come back for the evening hours at North Wharf/Wynyard Quarter, Britomart or the Viaduct - three developments right on the harbour's edge.

Which hotel have you booked (if any at this stage) ??

Depending on the answer to that question, I would probably suggest taking the AIRBUS into the city on your 1st afternoon and getting your car from the city depot the next morning.

A stroll around Viaduct harbour is a nice way to unwind. While the waterfront isn't a beach area, it's got a lovely gentle rhythm about it and has been mentioned there are quite a number of restaurants there with outside dining.

If you are staying around the Skytower area, a trip up to the observation decks at night is a great experience. Skycity hotel has several restaurants, including the revolving Orbit.

Depending on how many people are in your group, a shuttle service door to door may well suit if collecting your rental the following day .

We loved just walking around. Check out Elliot Stables to see where the locals hang out. We found a corner in the French Creperie and had an enjoyable dinner.
