Advice for travel in June to Auckland

We are considering travelling with our 7 year old for one week in june to auckland. our main concern is whether we will be too cold, or whether it will be difficult to enjoy the natural parks and walks during that time.

we will really appreciate any advice.

Auckland doesn't get that cold as it is coastal. However it can be wet in June. Do you plan to spend the whole week in AKL or travel further south or north? If you venture inland and to higher elevations eg Rotorua & Taupo you can expect frosts overnight.

You will be fine, Auckland doesn't get that cold, just make sure you pack raincoats and umbrellas.

I love NZ, we travel there several times a year, June is wet and cold, but not freezing, normal winter clothes will be completly fine, id suggest gloves. and easy to enjoy the parks and walks.

On another note I have no idea what i would do in Auckland for a week though, we have 5 children (10 to 19) they would be bored within 2 days, I suggest heading by hire car to roturua/lake taupo, there is so much to do in NZ and the roads are terrific.

The weather won't be that much different than the SF Bay Area is in winter. Certainly not in Auckland. As you get further south, the temps get a bit colder. And with almost anyplace, higher elevations are coldest.

Auckland's location on an isthmus makes day trips a bit frustrating as you have only 2-3 roads out of town! Have you considered visiting Coromandel as well as Rotorua, Waitomo Caves etc for 3-4 N?

would you suggest doing all of them together in one 3-4 night trip?

There are lots of options for things to do around Auckland, particularly with a 7 year old.

Auckland Zoo, MOTAT, Kelly Tarltons, Auckland Museum or you can do day trips by ferry to places like Waiheke Island and the Coromandel.

There are some great walks around the Waitakere Ranges, Muriwai Beach and Longbay. You can even rent a bach (holiday house) in some of the regional parks through Auckland Council.
