South Lake Tahoe hotel in August

I am looking for a room in SLT for our 20th Anniversary in August. We would like to stay under $200 per night, (Wed-Sun) so I know that the weekend may be a little more. Priorities are; walking distance to restaurants, close to casinos, not too far from the lake.

I have narrowed it to Basecamp, Alder Inn, Deerfield lodge, hotel 968, Best Western Plus station House and Harvey's.

I need any input into these (or any similar that I am missing).

So confused, thanks for any help you can give.

a couple of questions

1) do you like gambling?

2) are you ok with cigarette smoke?

3) do you like casinos with summer entertainment?

If so, Harrahs usually works very well....

If no to any of these, the other ones would be a better choice....

I have not stayed at all of them so suggest looking at the hotel reviews on Trip Advisor.

We usually end up at the Marriott, Alpenrose, or Best Western when in the area if not staying at a casino hotel.

but there are a lot of motels similar to Alpenrose or Best Western....so take a look at others.

Marriott is my favorite place to stay in SLT.

We love Harvey's Hotel, it's been our favorite for many years. The rooms are very spacious, and they are closest to the lake, for some great sunset views out of the windows.

Our favorite restaurants are also inside. The Sage Room is the original 1947 Steak House in Harvey's hotel. On the top floor is 19 Kitchen & Bar, with the best views in SLT. Near the lobby is a Hard Rock Cafe, with fresh salads, burgers, chicken, etc. Cabo Wabo Cantina, fun place for Mexican food is down on the bottom floor, near the tunnel to walk underground across the street. Also a Starbucks.

Have a look at this establishment ... right on the edge of the lake.

I agree about the Marriott if its in your budget, but if you are choosing between just those listed then Harveys. The views from the restaurant on the top floor are spectular and I think the people that work there are among the nicest for the casinos. (I worked there in "another life", ie when I was 21)

Are you set on South Shore? I adore the South Shore and have been going there for 50+ years, but my favorite hotel for a special occasion is The Hyatt in Incline Village. There is nothing better than walking across the street and having a special drink by the fire pit, then dinner at Lone Eagle and back outside to the fire pit for their yummy desserts like the baked alaska. You can take a boat tour right at their boat ramp, have fun on the beach and they have a small casino that I always loose money at. For a special occasion, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at The Hyatt. Its totally worth the money. (great spa too)

I have not stayed in all of your narrowed down list. However, the Alder Inn and Deerfield lodge are located on Ski Run (if I remember correctly) which is a nice area, but almost too far for your requirement of walking distance to the casinos and the lake. I have stayed in Harvey's many times and their rooms are very nice. Some people do not like the casino atmosphere, so that can be a negative. I was looking at the Basecamp motel a few weeks ago and noticed they have recently updated a rather poor run motel. Hotel 968 was also remodeled and renamed a few years ago. Sorry I can not be of more help, but congratulations on the milestone wedding anniversary!

Seems like everyone likes where I work as the Concierge Manager (Harveys).. Thanks for the great feedback.

I am also very familiar with the other options you are looking at.. Basecamp, Alder Inn, Deerfield lodge, hotel 968, Best Western Plus station House...

Basecamp is the closet to Harveys. It is newly remodeled and they have done a wonderful job. The rooms are very nice and the staff is friendly for sure!

The Alder Inn is newly remodeled as well. Very nice boutique type property.. VERY close to lake but the Ski Run Marina isn't the best for beaching it. It is about a mile from the casinos.

Deerfield Lodge.. just repeat what I said about The Alder Inn, however two blocks further from the beach. :)

My friend is the GM at 968 Park.. So I do not seem biased I will just say its a great property... which it is. Location wise.. same distance to lake as Basecamp but further from casinos... close to shopping and the Heavenly Village.

The Best Western is just down the street from 968 Park which makes it closer to the lake. I love the restaurant there.. LewMarNels.. It's a hidden gem that as a concierge I send guests to all the time.
