1nigh in Aug- Luxury Hotel or Inn with Spectacular Views

Title pretty much says it all! Flying into SFO on a Wed.. staying near Yosemite Weds night.. touring Yosemite on Thursday, driving east on Tioga Pass Rd and staying in Mammoth Lakes Thursday, then heading north to South Lake Tahoe on Friday for one night before heading back to Sonoma for 3 nights.

You don't say what your interests are or what your budget is? South Shore has the big casinos but it has the traffic and congestion too. You can get some great deals though at Harvey's, Harrahs, and MontBleu.

For scenery and a quieter location on a great part of the lake why not stay on the North Shore at the Hyatt Regency?

Sorry.. I was hoping to find a nice lake front property. Don't care about Casinos.

I have now decided to spend 2 nights in Yosemite, so will cut the Mammoth Lakes night at the Westin if I find something nice in Tahoe. Was thinking South Tahoe as we're coming from Yosemite headed towards Sonoma and the north side seemed further out of the way, but might be worth it. Budget wise.. up to 3-350.

Now on day 3 we will be leaving Tenaya Lodge in the AM, driving the Tioga Rd, stoping along the way, at the end want to see Mono Lake and possibly Bodie. Then stay at the Westin in Mammoth Lakes or ? in Tahoe area. This is more of just an overnight stop, will not be able to spend alot of time.. just the next morning before heading to Sonoma in the afternoon.

Wow Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp over Tioga Pass, Mono Lake & Bodie then to Tahoe or Mammoth - long day.

North and south Tahoe are too close together to bother with worrying about distance to one over the other. Also heading west on 80 to Sonoma instead of 50 is faster.

You should look at the Hyatt in Incline Village. It's a beautiful lakeside property. Though you may not get a lakeside room for your budget you'd be able to enjoy the lakeside fire pits in the evening, the private beach and lakeside dining.

With just an overnight stop, I'd go for the Hyatt in Incline Village. You could have sunset drinks over the lake around the fireplace in front of the Lone Eagle Grille, and dinner in their brand new remodeled Lounge and Tapas bar, and listen to live entertainment in the evening.

Thanks for the help. The Hyatt it is! Looks perfect. A little more than the 350, but not bad.

It will be a longer driving day, but I plan to start by 8. Will take our time going over Tioga Pass, mapquest says from Tenaya about 3.5 hours.. planning on 5-6 getting us to Mono lake about 2. Just a short stop there.. then its 2.5 hours to the Hyatt. Bodie is a maybe.. looks kind of cool, but if we're tired we'll skip that. I figure that adds about an hour or so.

Thanks for the help!

I'd skip Bodie if it were me, it's going to be a long day as it is. We've stayed at the Tenaya Lodge, so I know the driving distance. You want to get to the Lake. Best way there is to take 395 north, and take the 50 west toward the lake. Head north on the 28. You'll get some gorgeous views of the lake on the way to the Hyatt. You'll pass Sand Harbor, our favorite beach, with clear water. We are headed there soon.

When you see Lakeshore Dr, take it about a half mile along millionaires row to the Hyatt. Have fun.

The Hyatt is a wonderful property. Too bad your lodging at Yosemite is about as far away from Lake Tahoe as possible. Don't rush your drive over Tioga Pass as it is just a beautiful drive. I think Bodie is a great stop, but you can't do it in an hour from Hwy 395. The last part of the road is not paved and is very slow.
