Day Trips

We will be staying at Crown Resort at Marbella in early October. We plan on taking day trips from there. Just wondering which place would be best to visit on Sunday- Gibraltar or Ronda? I see the fair is on in Fuengirola that week, would that be a worthwhile visit to see local colour? We have planned a tour to Granada for a day. Which would be more interesting, Seville or Cordoba for another day? It is going to be a busy week, but don't want to miss the highlights as we may never be back. Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Hi, I'd do Ronda rather than Gibraltar, if you have a car its a bit of a hair-raising drive but oh so worth it! Or you could go into Malaga City and catch the train up to Ronda and back. The Granada tour would be a great day out too and you can book a tour through reception at Club Marbella or if you are doing it on your own make sure you book your tickets on line to get into the Alhambra.

I'd say it would be very tiring to fit everything into the week and if you look at some of the threads on trips to Seville and Cordoba, most people say that Seville is worth a two day visit with a side trip to Cordoba so you might find you won't have time to fit it all in. I would, however, recommend a day trip to Malaga City, its a lovely city full of history and culture and amazing tapas bars and restaurants.

Fuengirola Feria is well worth a visit it and you could also take a trip up to Mijas Pueblo which has amazing views and the donkey taxis.

Local transport is cheap and frequent so if you don't hire a car most places are doable - although to get to Granada it is about 2½hrs each way so you would need to leave fairly early to get a whole day in.

If you need any further help please just post again.

Thank you Ceejayblue for your quick response. We have arranged to rent a car for the week so we will be driving here and there but have already arranged a day trip to Granada to Alhambra by coach. We will definitely spend a day in Malaga City. We will probably take the train so where would we meet it?

You would need to either get the bus into Fuengirola bus station and then go to the train station (2 min walk) and get the train. Or, you could drive to Plaza Mayor, which is outside Malaga City and park there (for free) as parking in the city itself is expensive and sometimes hard to find. Then you can get the train from Plaza Mayor into Malaga City's Central Alameda station. Its a wonderful place and is so easy to get around on foot, although there is a tourist hop on hop off bus if you want to do a ride round and get your bearings before deciding where to start.

If you want a chill out day, go just along the coast to Puerto Cabopino, its a lovely little marina with great restaurants and beach bars and a wonderful beach.

Just to let you know, Spain is currently causing problems for people who drive into Gibraltar and recently there was a day when they stopped all cars going across the border and queues were 6 hours long! So I would definitely rule out Gibraltar as a place to visit just in case you get stuck in a queue like that.

Would also suggest that if your looking for a day trip that's more local and within 30 minutes driving distance, then Mijas is a lovely place to visit for the day.
