1/2 day in Capetown before flight home

We will have a 3:15 PM flight from Capetown to begin our journey home on a Saturday in August. We are looking for suggestions on how to handle the time prior to the flight. By then we should have seen the following with our tour group and independently: Company Gardens and Slave Lodge Museum, Green Market, Cape Pt Nature Reserve, Kirstenboch Botanical Gardens, and Table Mountain. Since we will be checked out of our room we will have all our personal and travel documents on us, as well as our currency so we are concerned about wandering around in that state. Our hotel will be the One and Only Capetown. Thank you.

Do you have your own transport

If you will have a car, and like wine (or even if not, but like beautiful scenery) perhaps visit one of the estates between Stellenbosch and the airport, such as Asara or Spier. You'll only have a short drive back to the airport before your check-in time, and be surrounded by some of the best scenery in the Cape.

Included in our tour package is transportation to the airport. But it must be from our hotel.

One of our add on days in Capetown we plan to dedicate to a few wineries in Stellenbosch and Franschoek. If we had our own car what you are suggesting would be a great idea.

You could go to the waterfront or spend some time along the coast in the sea point green point area that area is safe. but try to be 2 hours before your flight at the airport there isn't much traffic to the airport on a Saturday but just to be safe leave to the airport 3 hours before your flight because it could take 30 to 40 minutes to get to the airport from one and only

Things to do in the city center that come to mind, not on your list above, include the Castle of Good Hope, the Bo-Kaap area, and District Six.

Thank you for the information, especially the tips about traffic and airport arrival. What is Sea Point , Green Point, if I may ask?

Sea Point is the area between Signal Hill (the rump of the lion of "Lion's Head" mountain) and the ocean. Mostly residential but with business and hotels also. The Sea Point promenade is a popular pedestrian walk along the seafront.

Green Point is the district between Signal Hill, Sea Point, and the waterfront. The new stadium for the World Cup is located there, as well as a number of hotels facing the sea.

Youre coming in August which is winter and the rainy season. Youre staying at the One and Only which is superb and at the waterfront. If you have a 3.15 p.m. to New York you need to be at the airport 2 hrs before for an international flight. Alternatively if you are going to Johannesburg then its a domestic flight so its an hour before. 2 hrs before means you need to leave the hotel at 12.30 AT THE LATEST maybe even 1215 so quite honestyly you have hardly any time. If your breakfast is not included at the One and Only perhaps take a My Citi bus to Camps Bay if the weather is good and have breakfast at one of the many restaurants facing the sea. If the weather is awful which it can be in August, perhaps just have breakfast somewhere else in the waterfront and do some shopping at the mall or walk around the actual waterfront because really you dont want to rush in order to be back at the hotel. The One and Only is a 5 star maybe 6 star hotel so they will hold your luggage and I am sure passports even though you have to check out early.
