Suggestions appreciated for 2 week wine and garden route

Hello

I am in the process of starting to plan a 3 week visit to Cape Town and the surrounding areas probably starting mid January 2015 (It really isn't that far away, ha ha).

Anyway we have more or less settled on spending a week in Cape Town itself and exploring the city, maybe taking in a cricket match at Newlands and doing the usual trips.

We are looking to fly from Heathrow to Cape Town with BA once the dates are released and like the look of the Holiday Inn Express for our accomodation. We then want to drive the Garden and wine route and base ourselves in probably 3 or 4 locations over a 2 week period.

Obviously we love wine and great restaurants and also nature and wildlife but want to visit nice beaches and stay in locations that are ok to walk out at night and experience a little bit of local nightlife (bars/seafood restaurants).

I suppose my question is, if somebody with good local knowledge had to plan such a 2 week driving trip what would be their ideal plan bearing in mind a couple of days of relaxation might be needed also ? Would you pinch a day or two off the week stay in CT?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Dave

I would stay in Cape Town for a couple of days. So much to see and do around the city. Day trips to the wine lands of stellenbosch and Franschoek are a must as well. If you want to head up Gardens route hire a car and take the N1 through Worcester, Robertson, Ashton and then through to George. You will pass probably 50 or more wine lands on this 2 hour trip. From George head to Plettenburg bay for some of the best beaches in the country and warm water. Stop in at Knysna, do a forest walk visit the heads. Head on up to Port Elizabeth and visit one of the many private nature reserves or the Addo Elephant National Park. This you can do very comfortably in Two weeks
