Visting to Hogenakkal...

Hi,

I have plan to visit on July month to Hogenakkal. Is that period okay to visit? I have plan to stay in Salem. Is it possible to complete the Hogenakkal trip with in a day. that means, starting early morning from salem and completing the trip by that day evening itself? Which mode of travel, bus or car is better for above?

Please advice....

Hogenakkal is a highly overrated and commerical place which is extremely crowded with monkey menace. When you go to see the falls, every 100 meters who will be asked for a ticket. First at the entry point you need to pay the tourism department and the police some fee. When you actually enter the falls area you need to pay the parking attendant even if you dont want to park your car in the car park. Then when you go to the small children park to have a small picnic to eat you again need to pay. When you go to see the falls, to cross over to the otherside on teh hanging bridge you need to pay again, including for the camera. They will keep showing you direction to the main fall. At a certain point you need to cross-over to see the main fall, at that point you need to pay again to cross over. Once you cross and go near the main fall, you need to climb a tower to actually see it, you need to pay again for that. The main fall is just a trickle, nothing to see at all. I have a serious doubt if it is really the main fall and people have just named it such. The boat ride costs rs.600 for a boat which can accomodate 6 people. if you have less people they don't care, you still need to pay 600. If you want the boat experience for a 5 minute, 20 meter stretch they charge Rs.50.

Very disappointing.
