Great to see it operating.

At its low speeds, even if it derailed, there would be unlikely to be much damage.

It's now been running uninterupted for some months but I reckon many Filipinos, let alone foreigners, do not know it has resumed operation.

The easiest and best located PNR station at which to buy tickets is Pasay Road, not the rather 'remote' Tutuban terminus.

Here are some extra, extended trains (beyond naga City towards Legaspi) which is good to see:

Has anyone ridden any of PNR's long distance trains recently?

How was patronage?

The Filipino page on www.seat61.com has some interesting, although brief, comments from a recent traveller, together with updated schedules:

This claims that prior to Christmas the PNR nightly Tutuban to Ligao train will be extended to Legaspi:

Does anyone know if the overnight Manila (Tutuban) - Naga - Ligao and return Bicol Express will run on 30 and 31 December 2012 and 1 January 2013 in both directions?

The website and steadily growing in fans Facebook page are silent.

This unofficial Facebook site implies (in its right hand column, a long way down) that the Manila (Tutuban) - Naga City trains have recommenced:

https://www.facebook.com/philippinerailways

However the official Philippine National Railways site (which is often not quickly updated) does not make any such claim, suggesting instead that due to typhoon or storm bridge damage, the line is still closed beyond Binan, Laguna:

http://www.pnr.gov.ph/bicol_express.htm

The official PNR Facebook page is similarly silent:

https://www.facebook.com/pnrailways

I suspect that the first source is incorrect, but can anyone confirm this? What date are the long distance trains resuming?

@ VL

The bottom link you have mentioned is the correct one - https://www.facebook.com/pnrailways

Actually they are pretty well updated (daily). I wrote my query on Bicol express and they promptly responded (Sorry - the train is still not running) I think someone in the PNR office is perpetually on his / her ipad monitoring this page!

Sadly all they seem to be doing recently is getting couples to click photos with their trains in the background!
