Need tips for an inexpensive way to vacation in St Maartin

We really would like to go to St. Maartin this year. We wanted to do an all inclusive but there are only a few and wonder if it would be cheaper to rent a villa? If so, what are some great places to rent for a decent price.

Are the restaurants expensive due to the culinary greatness there? Any and all tips are appreciated. Thank you.

What is your budget?

Off season will be less costly

Timeshare rentals save too

Restaurants vary from inexpensive to very expensive

In a TS you can cook in your unit a few days and eat out the remaining days.

Budget preferably $800 for one week. This is only for food, but honestly we could spend more if needed. I'm just trying to get a range. The half and half idea sounds great! I'll look on TA for timeshares. Thanks for your input!

You probably could find a weekly rental at one of the TimeShare resorts for under $1,000. If you go during the Summer you probably can get less expensive air fares. A car rental could cost $200 or less. Eat at some of the inexpensive restaurants for $70 for two or at a LoLo for $25 for 2. Drink before and after and don't buy alcoholic drinks when out at the restaurant. Eat a couple of dinners in.

When we used to vacation here, we stayed in a timeshare with a kitchen. We shopped for breakfast and lunch. cereal, yogurt, fruit, milk, incredible cheeses and lunch meats. We typically enjoyed breakfast on our balcony, packed a cooler with fruit, cheese etc, picked up a baguette from the bakery on the way to the beach and lunched from the cooler. Out to dinner every night! You can eat very well, quite cheaply here. And booze is cheap.

don't go all inclusive in St. Martin. It's the food mecca of the Caribbean and you will be sorry. Restaurants vary from cheap to 'oh crap' that hurts but the food is great.

Rent a villa from VRBO for around $1,000, car for week (must) is about $180, villa will have kitchen and groceries are cheap...liquor is dirt cheap. Carry a bottle of rum/coke with you for ultra cheap drinks while out.

Travel after 4/15 for low season rates on cars, villas, etc...

Going back in 2 months myself and can't wait!

Wow, thanks for the great info! I'm new to booking villas, as we normally do the resort thing. Thanks again! We hope to go the 2nd week of May, hopefully prices are low then.

Great. I can't find a one bedroom beachside rental for $1000 for one week, 6 nights. Most are a lot more. We'd really like beachside but may have to go up in price to get that.
