Fishing cabins or resorts

I NEED HELP........ Looking for great fishing with clean cabins near Saskatchewan, Lake Winnepeg. Im coming from Nebraska by car and dont want to waste alot of time driving into Canada but want my husband to have a great experience for his 40th birthday.

I stayed on Dore Lake as a child in a family friends cabin and just loved Canada and my husband has never been. Would like to bring our own boat if possible anyone have any suggestions, we are a pretty low maintence couple but we love to fish so can anyone help guide us?

Just so we are clear, are you looking to go to Lake Winnepeg (located in Manitoba) or do you want to got to a lake located in Saskatchewan? Lake Winnipeg is several hours from the Saskatchewan border.

As for bringing your own boat - In Saskatchewan and I believe in Manitoba - you need a Pleasure Craft Boat License in order to operate your boat. You are also required to have 1 life jacket per person in the boat while it is on the water. You will also need to purchase one fishing license per person and follow all regulations with regard to filleting your catch.

Probably near Saskatachewan. We are o.k. with the requirements as far as the boat goes but just need some advise on resorts or cabins.

To be honest with you, if you want really good fishing, then you would be looking at northern Saskatchewan. This would be a 5 - 8 hour drive north of the US/SK border.

However, if you want to be close to the Canada/US border, you can try Cypress Park Resort Inn http://cpri.sasktelwebhosting.com/ or Kenosee Inn Resort Hotel http://www.kenoseeinn.com/ I'm not sure how the fishing is, you may need to contact the resorts and find out if they will meet your needs.

It would be best if you went to central or northern Saskatchewan. If you want to go fishing in a boat, do not go to Cypress or Kenosee, although both are lovely places. For accessibility and great fishing, you would be hard-pressed to beat the Nipawin/Tobin Lake area. The fish are huge and plentiful, and there are very good cabin rental options in the area. Here's a link: www.nipawin.com/Accommodation.php?mode=1

Check out accommodations for Tobin Lake, Codette Lake, and Torch River at the top of the page.

Jan Lake Lodge (http://www.janlakelodge.com/) is another fine option, although it is a few hours further north.

There are some places in the Dore/Delaronde Lake areas further to the west and north. You could likely go on the Tourism Saskatchewan (www.sasktourism.com) site for further information.
