outside quebec city?

We are heading to Quebec city on the 6th of Aug. We've booked 2 nights at Hotel aristocrate and will then be camping for 5 nights at parc Jacques Cartier (we can't afford 7 days accommodation in city!) I'd wanted to go to Tadoussac but it may not fit in-- thought a night in Ile d'orleans or Ste-Anne... any recommendatins for inexpensive cheerful places to stay- oout of the heavy tourist zone- we want a does of the real life...

Since you mentioned Ste-Anne and Île-d'Orléans (but they are not really out of the toureist zone!) :

St-Pierre (Île d’Orléans)

[I checked « Le Vieux Presbytère », who offers gourmet menus : they have 12 X 25’ rooms with queen beds at $120., and smaller rooms, 12 X 15’ with double beds at $95., both including breakfast. You may choose a package deal including supper, in this case, add $60. per room pr day (for 2 people). This morning, they had some rooms available for Aug 13 and 14]

Ste-Pétronille (Île-d’Orléans)

St-Laurent (Île d’Orléans)

Out of the tourist zone, quiet location, but very close to Quebec City:

South shore, facing Quebec City’s Old Town, in Lévis :

http://www.tourismelevis.com/index_en.htm Click “Accomodations”, then make your choice. There is a ferry evry 20 minutes at rush hour ($2,60 per way, per person on foot, about $5 for a car, $16 for a monthly pass), leading you to Lower Town, at the foot of Château Frontenac. Magnificant views of Quebec City from the ferry and from the 15 km long, flat cycle/walking path along the river. Parking is NEVER a problem. And the best gelati and soft ice creams out of Italy are there ... on Bégin St ...

Go on boulevard ste-anne close to the montmorency falls or before them to find a cheap hotel near the orleans island or cote de beaupre. Make sure that you don't go on wenesday or saturday because most hotels will probably be all booked because it's the international firework competition at the montmorency falls.
