Car route from Phildadelphia.

We will be leaving Philadelphia on the last Sat. in July and arriving in QC on Sun. I would like to be in our hotel by around 12 pm. Can anyone recommend a town to stay in on Sat night. We have no set route in mind. I'm concerned about how long of a wait we will have at the border on a Sun. morning. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

For route possibilities see this ongoing forum post:

It is approx. a 9-10 drive straight through. You should decide if you want stay overnight in the US or Canada. Crossing on a Sunday morning should not be too lengthy a wait - perhaps at most up to an hour. You might look at stopping for the night somewhere in the Eastern Townships (between Montreal & QC) which are quite lovely.

I am doing the same thing in July. I always manage long drives with sleepovers - really breaks up the ride. I am leaving on a Wed night (about 6pm) and driving just under 4 hours and sleeping over in Albany (lots of chain hotels so I can stay on points.) First thing in the morning, will drive about 3 hours to Montreal, and stopping over for a visit (I am actually staying for 2 nights). Quebec City is 2 hours from Montreal.

If you can consider leaving Friday night, you could follow this with a day in Montreal, arriving Sunday.

Crossing the border going into Canada usually doesn't take too long. It always seems longer coming back.

If you want a nice place to stay, about 3 hour away from Quebec City, then look at the Eastern Townships, www.easterntownships.org. The area is located just over the border, easily accessed by taking Route 91 from Connecticut all the way up.

2 places we love to stay at, which offer wonderful dinners, are Manoir Hovey, an old English mansion located on a beautiful lake in North Hatley. The other, just off Highway 10 in Mount Orford, is L'Auberge Aux 4 Saisons, a little less fancy and more informal.

It's a lot cheaper to stay on the US side, you may want to consider staying near a border town on the US side and crossing early into Canada the next morning....
