Place to stay in Quebec with kitchen/ette?

Hello there!

My friend and I are planning a trip to Quebec this July for a week, and we were wondering if anyone would be so kind as to point us in the direction of somewhere to stay.

Since we have no car, we'd love if it were right in or very near to the heart of old Quebec, Upper or Lower Town. We're thinking of a budget of 75$ - 124$ a night and preferably somewhere with breakfast, but it isn't super crucial. What is super crucial though is a kitchen or kitchenette. We'd love to save some money by making our own food from time to time.

Any and all suggestions welcome, thank you all very much for taking the time!

A great spot, a short block from the Chateau Frontenac in Upper Town is Chateau de la Terressa Dufferin. An old converted Victorian, it does have some rooms with kitchenettes, though the cost might be more than your budget. Great views as well. Remember, July is peak tourist season so prices will definitely be higher.

Another good alternative is the youth hostel. You can get a private room with en suite bathroom for your budget. There is a huge communal kitchen and dining area and massive fridges for your food, small grocery store a few steps out of the door. It is in the old city and an easy walk to all things interesting. I have stayed a few times for budget reasons and the private rooms are really lovely and set away from the regular hostel rooms.

There is also a bar, games and tv room, free wifi and organised activities such as trips to the Montmorency Falls etc. Great for folk without a car and who want to socialise a bit.

It is a 4 star hostel and is well reviewed here.

I second Bogwoppit's recommendation. It's only a block or so off of St. Jean. It's very spacious, and clean. If mobility is any sort of problem, it might be an issue. As I recall, there isn't an elevator for your use. There's another hostel not too far off of St. Jean (it has Paix in the name, I think). It's MUCH smaller. It has a kitchen, but the stairs are even harder to navigate. I do not think that it has en suite rooms. If you want to stay at any hostel, book as far in advance as you can. They're popular.
