Montreal Driving Day-Trips for Scenery & Charm

Spending several days in Montreal end of August. I've visited the city many times so would like to do some exploring 1 or 2 days. Scenery and wildlife viewing with a little light hiking and/or charming small towns, fromageries, etc. Willing to drive up to about 2 hours one way. Haven't visited Mont-Tremblant but have the impression that is more of a busy tourist resort area. Comments or other ideas? Thanks!

Yes, Mont-Tremblant is busy with tourists… but nice nonetheless. In this area, you may also like St-Sauveur and Ste-Agathe-des-Monts.

I would recommend going to the Eastern Townships: Knowlton, North Hatley, Magog, Coaticook. In this area, you may go to Mont-Orford to do some light hiking.

You may also enjoy the Wine Route… http://www.laroutedesvins.ca/en/

Thank you. A few years ago we did stay 2 nights in Magog, visited North Hatley and Mont Orford - all quite nice. And thank you for other suggestions, I am looking into them.

I''m considering an overnight trip to Mont Tremblant. I have read that there are some nice scenic areas for exploring. However I would like to base myself somewhere convenient to those areas but offering walk-to amenities such as a nice restaurant. Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.

Go to the village of Mont-Tremblant. Many restaurants and easy access to hiking.

For cheese makers consult

http://www.routedesfromages.com/

that you could combine with some charming villages using:

If you are in the firm cheeses, try the incredible ALFRED LE FERMIER of Fromagerie La Station in Compton (#70 on map) and the AU GRÉ DES CHAMPS of Fromagerie Au Gré des Champs (#53)
