1 week in Toronto. Opinion/advise needed.

My wife and myself will be going to Toronto in early August 2014. We will be there for 1 week. 1 day is allocated for Niagarra Falls day trip. Another 3 days are to spend with friends and relatives. I am allowing 3 days for sightseeing in and in close proximity to Toronto. We are quite fit and don't mind long days and lots of walking. I need your help in deciding what to do on those 3 days. What are some of the things we should do while in Toronto? We won't have a car., can hire one if neccessary. We don't mind using public transport or taxis where necessary.

Also, which tour company would you recommend for the day trip to Niagarra Falls?

Note the first Monday in August is a holiday in Ontario (Aug 4th in 2014).

The first weekend in August is also the Caribana (Caribbean Festival). It's very much an event unique to Toronto, not found in Australia. The parade on Saturday is the main event of the festival.

From what you said you wanted, you should spend your time somewhere else in Canada. Toronto is one boring city of neighborhoods, with fine dining, good theater, concerts, sports....petty much good, but boring, safe living. It is considered to be the most multi-cultural city in the world, but then I don't think that is what you are looking for. You had expressed some interest in Quebec City, then again that place is just a miniature European city. Why go there when you can visit Paris or Rome?

You wanted something stunning to do. How about going to Churchill and chase polar bears?

Since some of you seem to be a bit precious, sorry I asked the questions. I will spend my time where I want.

Thanks again to those who tried to help.

I am done with this thread.

Umm! I am also spending time in Toronto in May but just three days. However, whilst considering what it do on the next leg of our trip to New York, we are overwhelmed with options. I feel as you do about Toronto. Seems a bit short on things that make us go "wow"! Wish I had flown in, stayed one night, then Niagara then off to USA. Let's hope we are both wrong eh?

Look, you come on to a Toronto forum full of Toronto "destination experts" and people who just plain love Toronto, and make some mild insults. Not sure why you wouldn't expect people to take exception to that. People are here to tell what they love best about where they live. If you come to the city, and you don't like it, write a review somewhere. Or if the options aren't interesting to you in the first place, clam up and move on. It's not rocket science.

OK. Point taken. However, I am a very well travelled person of mature years and have never replied to any post similar to what I have just done. Please assist me as I am truthfully struggling to come up with things to fill three days/nights. We like shows but it appears the choice is "The Lion King". Pity we miss "We will Rock You" by a few days. Love country/rock music. Wow, Id love to see Shania Twain....not just her singing either!! Sorry, getting carried away!! So, I would very much value any suggestions you might have. I am at this mo emailing the CNTower to book a table as I cannot get a reply when I call. Possibly that's because its inly 8.50am in Toronto? As we will see Chinatown/Little Italy in NY its not something that we would do in Toronto. We spend two nights at Niagara Falls Hotel. We have arranged a full days walking tour of N.Y. and we would like something similar, river or bus tour or better still, one where some funny knowlagable person takes you around explaining the history but with a bit of humour etc. perhaps. We are staying in The SoHo hotel.

I didn't mean to appear offensive, as I am not, but it just seemed strange that someone else was having similar problems. I do apologise.

You perhaps should do more research. Toronto is filled with theatre, dance, music, cultural events ... you need to look past the "broadway" type shows ... unless that is your thing

And many others. ..

Walking tours by locals can be obtained through the greeter program:

Or by various other programs:

heritagetoronto.org/programs/tours/walks/

tripadvisor.ca/Travel-g155019-c134638/Toront…

As for restaurants, there are literally thousands in the city. The CN tower is not known as a marvellous dining exprience, although the view is stupendous. It's generally accepted though, that if the weather is foggy, rainy, etc. there's no point going up.

Music I will leave to others.

And btw - tagging on to someone's elses post is usually unfruitful ... for suggestions about things to do tailoredd to your taste, you should do your own post.

Thanks Geoff, really I was just responding to the person from Sydney, I should have been more specific.

Hi, GeoffR1;

Please do start your own new post with your questions as many have already moved on from this thread.

FYI, Chinatown in NYC is quite different from Toronto's and it is adjacent to our Kensington Market neighbourhood which you really must see. Little Italy in New York is completely different than the area here of the same name.
