Visitor tax refund

Read across a forum saying there won't be any tax refund for us visitors to Canada after April 1,2007 however there's another forum which says PST is ok if you spend over cdn $625. Anyone can clarify?

Sorry, you're out of luck.

There used to be a rebate for foreign visitors on federal sales tax (GST), but that ended in 2007.

Separately, there was a little-used rebate on Ontario provincial sales tax (PST). Most purchases didn't qualify because it was only available if you paid $50 or more in PST on a single receipt (meaning a purchase of $625).

In any case, the provincial sales tax has been phased out and replaced with a "harmonized" sales tax (HST) -- the federal government gets part and the provincial government gets part, but it mostly follows federal rules. The provincial rebate offer ended in July 2010 when the HST was adopted.

The only remaining visitor sales tax rebate is for foreign conventions and tour operators, which probably doesn't apply to you.
