Sault Ste. Marie to Paradise

We will be spending 2 days in Sault Ste. Marie for the Agawa Canyon color train tour. Then on to Paradise for falls, shipwreck museum etc. Map Quest directions show I 75 to M28 to M123. Looking at the map it looks like there is a Lake Shore Drive. Can you get to Paradise going this way, is it worth it & if it is what are the directions. We would like a scenic drive if it is possible.

Yes, lakeshore is a nice drive. It will be 20-30 minutes longer, but the lake views are nice. Take the I-75 south, to M-28 west. At about 6 miles, take 221 towards Brimely. It ends at at lakeshore. Go left and follow it to where you pick up m-123, and go right towards Paradise.

Thank you, I don't mind the extra time if it is a nice drive. We are going at the end of Sept. I hope the colors will be nice then.

I hope they are past "just starting" I know it's a crap shoot when they are going to start, but I hope we have an early fall. It will be a very boring 8 hour train ride to the canyon and back if there isn't much color. I was reading some of the older posts and some said it was near peak at the end of Sept.

North of the Soo will turn faster, so you will get a nice show on the train. Almost guaranteed. It is a long day, and you can't stare at leaves all day. Bring a book.

Uh oh, sounds like you may not be a fan of the train?? I did read all the reviews and most of them were positive, I hope our trip will be one of those. If not, I will be thinking about "Not worth the dollars" review for entertainment ;-) I think it is the funniest review I have read on TA ........

It's a great experience. Just go in being aware that the ride is long, and you can only look at trees for so long. SO bring entertainment options. And you won't have mobile coverage, so don't plan on playing with your phone.

Lake Shore Drive is well worth it. You will pass the Point Iroquois Lighthouse (spectacular). You will also pass through the Bay Mills Indian Community which has the Bay Mills Resort and Casino (waterfront) as well as Kings Club Casino (also waterfront) which was the first Indian casino in America. There are several fish markets in the area (hours unpredictable). The Mission Hill Overlook is nice.

Later on in the drive there are several areas to get out to walk along the beaches of Whitefish Bay. Some are official parking areas with toilets, etc and some spots just a path through the woods.

If the fall colors are out you may see them best along 6 mile road just before Brimley. You can access it by getting off at the second Soo Michigan exit and go towards town turning onto Mackinac Trail at the Admiral gas station. Take Mackinac Trail a couple miles and turn right onto 6 mile Rd. This will turn into Lakeshore Drive just past Brimley State Park.

Beware of speed traps through Bay Mills.
