Smaller, Family-Owned Wineries

I'm trying to get a feel for which of the wineries on the Wine Country Ontario map are smaller, family-owned operations as I'd have a tendency to believe that they will have a more intimate, personal setting. My wife and I like to get to know the people behind the place, so to speak...

First off, is this a good assumption?

Can anyone provide me with some of the smaller wineries on the map as well as your thoughts on them?

Thanks!!

I have a favourite faily owned winery in Jordan. Harbour Estates is owned by the Mowat family and completely family run!

And the wine is amazing! http://www.hewwine.com/index.htm

The owners Fraser and Darlene and their children are all friendly and accommodating.

This is my favorite: http://www.marynissen.com/index2.php

A small family run operation that only sells their wines on site. I really love their reds especially the 2007 Lot 66 & the 2007 Solstice.

Another couple good ones: http://www.reifwinery.com/ & http://www.colaneriwines.com/

There are actually quite a few little family run operations that have some pretty elaborate tasting rooms so don't let that fool you. I believe I've visited 42 wineries in the area the last 2 years & have only been disappointed a couple of times. Lots of great choices, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
