Things to do

We are visiting the falls in April and staying 10 days, I was just wondering what other attractions are a must see, Also what are the shopping centres like my 20 year old daughter will need retail therapy,

Is it worth paying for the helicopter to view the falls its seems pricy for the length of time,

Any ideas or help will be much appreciated

Regards Jane

Wow, 10 days is a long time for Niagara Falls, hope you're planning on some side trips. Toronto (Canada's largest city) is just 2 hours away by train or bus and has much to offer (especially shopping). You should really plan on spending some days there as well as many other places in southern Ontario.

Top things in Niagara Falls;

Maid of the Mist

Cave of the Winds (U.S. side)

Butterfly Conservatory

Whirlpool Jetboats

plus: Journey Behind the Falls, Niagara's Fury, Skylon Tower, Skywheel, Whirlpool Aerocar, White Water Walk, Clifton Hill museums (Ripleys, Tussauds, Guinness, etc.), Fallsview Casino and Casino Niagara, indoor skydiving, Bird Kingdom, Niagara on the Lake (for shopping, Shaw Festival theatres and dozens of wineries), Welland Canal, dinner theatres, Falls Illumination and Fireworks over the Falls, Marineland, Safari Niagara.

Niagara Helicopters is expensive, but it has been operating for 30+ years and is very popular.

The most popular shopping venue is Canada One Outlets. www.canadaoneoutlets.com/

I'm sure the helicopter ride has breathtaking views, but I can't say I've ever been on it (I'd love to though)..................the Skywheel, although completely different, does offer a skyhigh view........

Retail therapy may be best done on the American side, the Walden Galleria area of Buffalo is not bad to take a look at for sure.....as mentioned above, 10 days is way too long for NF, I would definitely suggest looking Toronto or other locales to enjoy....

The helicopter ride is too costly for me as well...add it up for an hour and wow. Maybe 15 mins is all you need-want up there but just seems too expensive.

Don't forget about the USA side if you are around for 10 days--I agree it seems like a longtime but then that be my dream falls vacation, lol

You can head south to Fort Erie, there is a fort there and there used to be a horse racing track--it might be shut down, every year its going to close but keeps hanging on but last year was to be the last season.

Towards the north is Niagara on the Lake and another fort is up there and there is the war of 1812 events happening--not sure if any are in April

A day trip to Toronto is possible.

St Catherines is just a 15--20 min drive away. Its a small town but more people live there then Niagara. Lots of stores and your away from 90% of the tourist.

I think 10 days isn't so long, a nice relaxing trip and hopefully the weather will be turning nice. Maybe rent some bicycles, lots of bike paths and I tend to notice more stuff then while in a car. (I found an abandon motel south of the horseshoe falls, bike around there and thought how it must have been when it was new, now it just sits all empty, a little ghost motel--its too far gone to be save and I guess too expensive to tear down and build a new motel)

The area is safe, some folks might feel uneasy at times if nobody is around.
