Niagara Falls itinerary and questions - please comment

Hi,

We are visiting Niagara Falls for the 1st time - unfortunately we only have a day and a half, so here is our schedule:

1. Arrive at Marriott Fallsview about 1pm

2. Do Maid of the Mist - is this within walking distance from the hotel?

3. Do Journey Behind the Falls - again, is this within walking distance from Maid of the Mist or accessible via Peoplemover (we won't have a car)

4. At night - visit Clifton Hills or Casino Niagara or Niagara Fallsview Casino or Lundy's Lane depending on which of these is easiest to get to.

5. Next morning - walk across to US side to do Cave of the Winds.

6. Find a place for the taxi to pick us up to take us to Buffalo Airport - any suggestions as to a good place to wait for the taxi - somewhere easy for us to find?

Thanks in advance!

My sis just took our two nieces back to the falls for a week, they took the people mover and stopped at the butterfly conservatory, very easy, they loved it and said some of the butterflies were huge!

Butterfly Conservatory is great, especially for kids. Personally, I would opt for less of the Falls as it gets old fast. Marriott Fallsview is an excellent hotel. Also, Fallsview Csino is much newer and nicer. They have free entertainment at night in the bar. Go for a walk out behind the Casino. It's very nice and you can get a look at the American side and the old facade of the Power bldg that is now the south end of the Casino.

The People Mover goes along the Niagara Parkway. It is owned by the Niagara Parks Commission and has a stop at any of their attractions. Butterfly Conservatory is one of the Niagara Parks Attractions and is located by the botanical gardens. There's about 10,000 butterfly's floating around and if you wear bright colours they are more likely to land on you. I've taken my niece and nephew a couple times and we've all enjoyed it. The gardens are beautiful too, and they're free. People Mover you an purchase an all day pass and the buses are 5-15 minutes apart at this time of year.

Thanks all for your help.

We are thinking of visiting Cave of the Winds on the way back to Buffalo Airport (from Canada) - however, we will have backpacks on - will this be very impractical (as in they will all get very wet!)

If so, we might head across the border in the morning, leaving our backpacks at the hotel, and then re-cross the border and pick up our bags. Obviously, this would involve a lot of border crossing time so we'd like to avoid it if possible.

Not sure about your getting the conservatory (I took a bus tour) but the butterflies were beutiful. If you don't use any kinds of strong perfumes or soaps-many of the butterflies landed on our clothes & fingers. I have pictures of my daughter with 5 butterflies crawling all over it.
