San Diegan Coming to London for New Year's

Hi all-

Coming to Canada with my Canadian husband and our kids and we are getting a fun night out on New Year's (grandparents watching kids).

Hubby got tickets for the London hockey game in the afternoon but now we need to plan dinner and hotel. I would love to go to a great restaurant with a good "scene"- I feel like I never get to see the cool side of Canada b/c I am always hanging out at the in-laws.

Can anyone suggest a fun night out? We are in our late 30's and don't mind spending $$$. We want to go somewhere fun!

Thanks!

Hi RCDDelMar,

Nothing against London per se, BUT if you have New Year's Eve without the kiddies underfoot (thank goodness from Grammas & Grampas)... I'd be heading off to either TORONTO (80 Miles about 1-1/2 Hours Drive Time) or NIAGARA FALLS / NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE (125 Miles about 2-1/2 Hours). Both of these are more adult destinations, and offer New Year's Eve Events (and a great way for a couple to see in 2010). Fine Dining, Fireworks, etc.

For more info on what each city / region has to offer check out their respective TA Pages and TRAVEL FORUMS.

Cheers!

RCD~If you're seeing a Knights game in the afternoon then very likely driving to Toronto or elsewhere is not possible for you. London is a smaller city but not without options.

Robinson Hall would be the place for after dinner partying with all kinds of wonderful restaurants nearby.

For fine dining....and a great experience

The Only on King

On the Fork

or La Casa

Restaurant choices with bar.......

Mint Resto-Bar

119 King Street, London, Ontario

The Tasting Room...Bar and Bistro

For hotels, we like either the Station Park Inn

http://www.stationparkinn.ca/

or the Delta Armouries.

Both hotels are very close to downtown. If it's a nice evening the walk back to the Station Park Inn along Victoria Park is gorgeous on New Year's Eve.

Hope that helps with your plans. :)

Just an update for you~

Mint Restobar is no more, but just opened in the same space is a fantastic new Italian restaurant/bar called Abruzzi. We had dinner there with friends this weekend and everything that we sampled....meat and cheese antipasti platters, pastas, seafood and of course, the wine....were wonderful and authentic.

Here's a recent article if you're at all interested~
