Hi Winnit73,

Welcome to the KINGSTON TRAVEL FORUM.

There are certainly some value priced spots in Kingston... BUT it will depend on two things....

1- Do you have access to a car, or are you strictly relying on Public Transit? The Hotels up along Hwy 401 are generally speaking cheaper than anything you'll find Downtown in the Historic area or along the Waterfront.

AND Most Importantly...

2- You say early September... when exactly are you visiting? Our Day Weekend is the first weekend in September (Holiday is actually Monday, September 6th), BUT the whole weekend is nuts (September 2nd thru 7th)... not only is it the last long weekend of summer... so lots of Travellers, BUT in addition, Kingston is home to two of Canada's biggest and most prestigeous Universities.... The Royal Military College and Queen's University... so Labour Day Weekend is the weekend that everyone moves into Rez. Families will come here from all over Canada, getting their kids settled into their new digs. Things book up way in advance and anything left at this point in time will no doubt be costly.

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers!

"Our Day Weekend is the first weekend in September..."

Hi winnit73;

I'm sure that Wine-4-2 meant to post that "Our *LABOUR* Day weekend is the first weekend in September..."

Indeed that is what I meant... Labour Day Weekend.

Thanks RESCUE TEAM for catching that typo.

Since the board can be used for research on upcoming travel, is there any reason why a member should refrain from posting on a thread with a general title that includes the name of a particular location?

Hi born2bike;

Three reasons come to mind.

#1 - The OP will mosy likely receive an email advising them that there is a reply to their query.

#2 - most people read the reviews rather than the forums when searching for accommodations.

#3 - many people trying to be helpful, don't notice when the OP is travelling and they continue to post replies. This is most likely what inthesun has done above.

Best Regards

TO BORN2BIKE,

Great reasons (all very valid posted by RESCUE TEAM) no Travellers really wants to be recieving notifications about "their" topic long after they've travelled... BUT also a fourth reason... TripAdvisor automatically STALE DATES (closes) any post after 6 months of inactivity. This is so that the info contained therein is retained in the TA Archives, but at the same time doesn't conflict with Reasons 1, 2, or 3 given above... but at the same time gives the Local Advisors & DEs the opportunity to UPDATE info when a Traveller is looking for "current / recent" info (example... "I was looking thru the FORUM and found a CLOSED topic about X... is that info still valid?). Stale Dating Posts is something that TA implemented in the last year or so, because DEs in many Destinations were saying that the info in their Locatioins changed dramatically each Year / Season, and it becomes tiresome to repeat to Travellers that the info they've read (tagged onto) is "incorrect" or DATED info.

TA prides itself on presenting "current" info vs a Guide Book type of info (many of which are out of date, even before going to print). The new system of Stale Dating (and also not encouraging tag ons to old topics etc) compliments this aspect.

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers!
