Family Holiday visiting from Scotland

Hello! We are coming over from Scotland for the month of July for our summer holiday. We are staying in Kingston for 4 nights. I'm looking for family friendly attractions and restaurants. I've read through all the "Things to Do" but there is just so much I have no idea which ones to do! Our sons (11 and 7) are sports daft and we all enjoy most things - history, museums, parks, animals and shopping = well that's for me. I'd really appreciate a couple of attractions/eateries that we should definitely go to. Many thanks for your help Lynne

Check the Kingston Tourism site for events on during your stay.

A 1000 Island cruise should be at top of your list. Also Fort Henry.

Will you have a car? A trip further east to Upper Canada Village.

Also a day in Prince Edward County - beaches, wineries, food galore.

Sandbanks Provincial Park and Fort Henry are the must sees for that age group.

Thank you so much for your help. We will have a car so Fort Henry and Upper Canada Village were on my list but I didn't know about Prince Edward Country and Sandbanks Provincial Park so that is really helpful. Kind Regards Lynne

For boys that age, I'd also consider a visit to the Pumphouse Steam Museum. You'd probably only spend a short time there, but if they have the big flywheel turning for the old city waterpump it's kind of cool.

You could call them to check what's on show for the day you could visit.

Food is not Kingston's forte, unfortunately, so I won't try to recommend much. If you want some nice baked goods, though, and are out in the west end-ish, you might want to check http://www.breadandbutter.ca/

I forgot about the kids... on the drive down to KIngston from Toronto, you may want to stop in Port Hope and check out the Canadian Firefighters Museum ... admission is free/ by donation, and kids love to climb on the trucks, dress in all the firefighter gear, etc.
