NS in Week - Can you do Cape Breton Coast and PEI?

We have one week to spend in Nova Scotia. We're will to do quite a bit of driving, but don't want to spend the entire time in the car. We're thinking of a loop that would start in Halifax, then go to Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, up to Digby back east through Wolfville, visit PEI, Dundee, Ingonish Beach, and back via Liscomb Mills.

Realize we'll be missing much of the lighthouse trail on that route, however. Would we be better off heading to Shelburne and Yarmouth? Would it still be possible to see PEI in a week?

Either route, what would be the best spots to overnight if we want to spend 2 nights per place?

We'd much prefer to see seaside and small towns than spend time in Halifax.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I guess it is possible to do this, but you will be spending almost all your time in a car.

You do not seem to have much of Cape Breton in your plans. For sure you will not have time for PEI.

It you take the time to really experience our landscapes and culture, you will want to come back! You should decide what is most important and then give some of the following a miss until next time.

-- Digby

-- PEI

Liscomb Mills (route 7 is very slow going so not good when time is limited)

The minimum time to spend in Cape Breton is three days, and that is rushing things. You want two days for the Cabot Trail, whale watching, hiking, concerts, etc. and one day for Fortress Louisbourg.

You could spend two days from Halifax to Lunenburg and two days in the Wolfville area.

Here is a possible route. Notice the driving times, but remember they do not allow for traffic or any stops.

Places to stay could be: Halifax or vicinity, Lunenburg, Wolfville area, Pictou or area, Inverness or area, Cheticamp, Baddeck, Halifax.

That is eight nights so you can see the problem already. The route outlined is about a thousand miles.

However it depends upon your interests and what time of year you are coming.

Check out the Nova Scotia website and come back with somemore questions: www.novascotia.com/en/home/default.aspx
