Halifax University Accommodation/Hostels- Best Location?

Hi all! Does anyone know...

in terms of nearness/ease of getting to tourist type stuff, which university residence in Halifax would be the best to stay at for a few nights: Dalhousie (specifically Howe Hall/Gerard Hall/Fenwick Place), Mount Saint Vincent, or Saint Mary's University? Or would the hostels be better located? (HI at 1253 Barrington Street and Backpackers at 2193 Gottingen Street...) Any other options? It's for two young women. We will have a rental car and are not big fans of driving in heavy traffic or sketchy neighbourhoods....

Greetings:

I live in the southend and am partial to St. Mary's or Dalhousie (Howe Hall or Gerard Hall); based on the locations. Both are walking distance to downtown. If you want a Hostel; Barrington Street is the safer location. You can explore the city on foot from these locations as they are 15-20 min walks from most attractions.

Good Luck.
