That depends. Are you interested in visiting Halifax? What time does your flight arrive? Are you flying from Nebraska?
The Celtic Colours International Festival is October 7th to 15th in 2011.This hugely popular event brings a great many visitors to Cape Breton which can mean that accommodations in some areas will be already reserved. I would suggest that you make your planned dates for the Cape Breton part of your trip asap & book your choice of accommodations.
Yes, there is lots to see in Halifax. It is our largest city, and is full of history, including Pier 21, the Citadel, etc, and has a wonderful waterfront with Historic Properties to explore. There is a great variety of lodging choices and loads of wonderful restaurants.
Cape Breton is connected to mainland Nova Scotia by the Canso Causeway. You could rent a car at the airport and drive from Halifax to Cape Breton. Depending on where you choose to stay, this is a minimum of 5 hrs of straight drive time, from Halifax to Baddeck, for example.
As pointed out by SuncatcherTruro, this is a very busy time of year for travelling to Cape Breton, not only for the Celtic Colours Festival, but also for leaf peeping as well. You need to finalize your plans quickly.
Thank you! Good advice & information!
