Is September A Great Month To Visit?

I've heard early to mid September is one of the best times to visit Cape Breton. Is this true?

What kind of weather can we expect? Also, what's would the proper attire be for sight seeing & hiking during the day?

How much will the temp. drop at night?

Thanks.

I'm sure one of our Capers will jump in and help you out, but all of Nova Scotia is great In Sept. There should still be lots of facilities open on the Island.

You will be early for the fall foliage

Yes, Sept. is great for hiking because it will not be so blazing hot. If we have "Indian Summer" we may get some hot days during Sept.. Usually the temperatures are around 20 degrees/ 70 and the night dropping around 5 degrees. I would take a light jacket that can be easily folded and put in your backpac Be sure to check the Hike The Highlands Festival which is in Sept. as well. hikethehighlandsfestival.com

We went early to mid-September and found it to be just right. Pleasantly warm during the day ( shorts and tee-shirts ) and still pleasent in the evening - you won't need any more than a light fleece at the most.

Don't miss the cabot trail, the Skyline Trail & Baddeck. Have a great time, I know we did !1 We go back again in 2 weeks and can't wait.

Tonight on a local radio station a Canadian Meteorologist gave us a long range weather forecast for Nova Scotia. He said the temperatures would be quite warm and it is going to be a beautiful Fall. If he is correct you have picked the best time of the year. I would say ideal hiking attire for this time of the year would be some lightweight zip off pants, and layered tops so that you will be prepared for any weather. Be sure to have some good walking or hiking boots . The temperatures at any time of the year on the Cabot Trail can be quite variable due to the proximity of the ocean and mountains

we have spent 2 nights at Baddeck because we have red on the Ulysse guide that Cabot trail is the nicest road in the world. We were very disappointed, nothing special, well some nice views, rainy and foggy, and it was in september ....The coastal road in Oregon is definitely one of the nicest road in the world with the Amalfitaine coast road in Italy and the north coast in Madeira .....

Sorry Phileptrus, we cannot control the weather, although it would be nice to be able to do so. Rain and fog, try snow, that's a real experience. Cannot compare the Cabot trail with the roads you mention, but have travelled a few roads in the Alps and have to admit they are okay, but still prefer the "TRAIL".

Always wondered why the roads in France had large trees on either side.

Snow we know because we are swiss, retired and living in France since 2000 but not for a long time yet, w'll be back in Switzerland in 2010 (Inch Allah). About the trees story, don't really know, but they have removed most of them now. About our trip in Nova Scotia last september, we have spent a night at the Old Lantern Inn and Vineyards at Grand Pré and we had a great dinner at The Domaine de Grand Pré Vineyards, the domaine and the restaurant are owned by 2 swiss german couples. Great food, it was a pleasant experience.

From Halifax we have appreciated the coastal road to Peggy's Cove and Lunenbourg ....wonderfull .....
