4 hours on Cape Breton Island

Due to time constraints, I'll only have 4-5 hours to drive around CBI - what are the must-sees on the Cabot Trail and is there a 4-5 hour loop route you would recommend?

From where are you coming and to where are you going afterwards? Then we may be able to suggest something.

In theory you can drive the entire Cabot Trail loop in under four and a half hours. But that does not allow for construction (which there is) or traffic or time to pull of to see the views.

Oh!! Thank you!

We’ll be coming from PEI and then heading towards Moncton afterwards.

It’s good to know the loop is doable in 5-ish hours!

It is a real shame you have so little time for Cape Breton. Are you taking the ferry or bridge from PEI? From where will you be coming on PEI? If it is the Charlottetown area then if you time it correctly the ferry is faster.

Here are a couple possible routes with times. Remember these times are quite optimistic:

We will be coming from Charlottetown, so we’ll be sure to check out the ferry schedule. Thanks for all your advice!

I would just suggest spending the extra 4-5 hours you have enjoying PEI instead of trying to cram the Cabot Trail in - you won't have time to stop / take photos / hike / eat?!

We spent 5 nights in Cape Breton in great weather / long summer days - and still didn't do everything we had planned to do.

That's a good point - we will have spent the previous day exploring PEI, which is why we're trying to see if we'll have time to visit the Cabot Trail, but I would love to just enjoy our time there!
