Camping - Private and quiet!

We're planning a road trip accross NS and will be camping along the way. We've had very bad luck in the past and don't want to get burned again! We have no kids or pets and do not want to be camping 6 feet from people who do. We are not adverse to hiking a little to reach the site in exchange for peace & quiet, or at the very least a great view. Campgrounds in the east that we love: Hole in the Wall on Grand Manan and Brudenell Provinicial Park on PEI.

All suggestions, for anywhere in NS are extremely appreciated!

Your best bet in Nova Scotia for what you are looking for is Cape Chignecto Park at Advocate Harbour. While the main part of the park is hike in wilderness sites, there are some sites that are easy walks from your car. One would be Christy Field, overlooking the Bay of Fundy with fantastic views and at the head of the trail system. On a star-lite night with no artificial light in the area it can be magical as the Bay of Fundy tides lap at the foot of the cliffs and all you hear are the night sounds of the wilderness - very serene. The sites 1 and 4 would be the nicest, but they are fairly close to each, although much more private than in most parks. There are only 4 sites and then a group site separated from those 4. Cape Chignecto is the largest provincial park in Nova Scotia, and the wildest.

Then at the other end of the park there is the Eatonville site at Elliot Brook. You will not find more private sites anywhere, with 1-4 (there are only 6 sites) being the best. You can park your car to unload it within 100 meters of your site right next to a beautiful clear brook. You might have this entire site all to yourselves! One of the best hikes in eastern Canada starts here, Elliot Brook to Seal Cove. Its a good hike for the day, allowing 6 hours to take in the incredible views from the escarpment. You could also camp at Seal Cove, but that means back packing in - peace and quiet for sure!

There is also the site at New Yarmouth in the park, very private sites in a heavily wooded area. My concern there would be the mosquitos - again a site you might have to yourselves. It is the only site in the park that allows fires, which would help with the bugs if they are a problem. The park site is www.capechignecto.net

The best campgrounds in terms of space and privacy are the ones run by the Province. http://parks.gov.ns.ca/misc/camping.asp

Thank you both very much! Chignecto looks so amazing, we may have to save it for a seperate trip altogether!
