Balboa - We went last year. Day 1 - Landed at Halifax, drove directly to Syndey Mines. Spent night there Day 2 - did Cape Breton loop the next morning. Back to Syndey Mines (Gowrie House). Day 3 - Left early morning, went to Fort Louisbourg (wonderful!), drove to Port Hawkebury in afternoon and stayed at MacKenzie House. Day 4 - to Wolfville, stopping to see tidal bore (which was a bore the day we were there), stayed at Victoria's Inn (one of best inn's ever stayed at). Day 5 - to Lunenburg, stayed at Lunenburg Arms Inn (awful, terrible service). Day 6 - to Halifax by way of coastal route, Peggy's Cove Day 7-8 Halifax (loved seeing the city, museums, good restaurants, stayed at Halliburton House).

Yes!!! totally worth the trip. However remember it will be drastically different from New York. If you are looking for big cities then you will not enjoy NS. NS does have great people, wonderful scenery, and some very unique experiences.

Thanks to Wintersummer and Ladytonia for your replies, both very helpful. As for the contrast between NY and NS, it won´t be the first time we do that kind of trip, combining big city with drives round the States.

I do have another question: how easy is it to book hotels one or two days in advance in the month of August?

Balboa - can't answer your question about booking several days in advance. We were there in Sept 04 so things were a little slow. If you need to know about this, I'd suggest starting a new post with that as the specific title, just so others will be sure to see your question.

Balboa - hey, I just noticed your other post. Sorry that I suggested what you had already done (asking about booking in advance)

When are you going we just got back today via the Cat Ferry. Nice but make sure you take 2 pills for motion sickness. Let me know when you are going and what you want to see?

Aug 18-27 we are planning to go with a group to Halifax NS, Peggy's Cove, then Moncton NB, Prince Edward Island, Baddeck NS, and Wolfville NS. What kind of weather will be happening about this time of year? Hot, humid, cool, rainy, (trying to figure on what to pack), can anyone help?

Midmich.: We do have some hot days in Aug. but usually the weather is beautiful -close to the coast, mid to high 20s during the day, mid to late teens at night. For clothing, layers are probably best. You'd probably need a sweater and slacks at night.

Rocks&food, thanks for your suggestion about the seasickness pills. Won´t go without them. We are arriving in Yarmouth on the 11th, after a few days in NY and driving up Maine coast. Our route includes Halifax, Cape Breton and back to Yarmouth via Truro/Digby area. Any ideas, suggestions would be great. Thanks.
