L'Anse aux Meadows from Gros Morne

We have only 4 days in Gros Morne at the end of the month. Would it be too much driving to go up to L'Anse aux Meadows for a day/night or should we just stick to the sites in Gros Morne?

Most people who vist L'Anse aux Meadows have said it is worth the trip. It is approx. a 4 hour drive.

Driving down the Northern Peninsula you will see lots of rugged coastline, usually lots of caribou and as you get further north, lots of Moose.

The site at L'anse aux Meadows is very interesting especially if you like history and even if you don't. There is viking villiage nearby, complete with settlers, and a viking boat you can take a tour on.

If there are any icebergs around you are sure to see them at L'anse aux Meadows or on a side trip to St Anthony.

In St Anthony there is the Grenfell musuem and Fishing Point which gives you a fantastic view of any iceberg or whales that might be in the area.

Lots of interesting things along the way. lots of local hiking trails and lots of friendly people

We just returned from a trip up the northern peninsula. The Western Brook Pond boat tour and Quirpon Island Inn off the northern tip of Newfoundland were the highlights of our trip. I would easily make the trip north to stay on Quirpon Island for a couple of days and to see L'Anse aux Meadows while in the area. I cannot say enough good things about Quirpon Island.

To mhask: How many days were you in Gros Morne? I'm just not sure if 5 days is enough to go up for two nights on Quirpon Island. What accomodations did you stay at there?

We were in Gros Morne for 3 days. We did the Western Brook Pond Boat Tour, which was one of our highlights and did the Lookout and Stuckless Pond Trails. The Gros Morne Mountain trails was one we did not get to and would like to do. On Quirpon Island, we stayed at the Quirpon Island Lighthouse Inn. If you cannot do two nights at the Inn, it is probably not worth the trip. The boat takes you over at 4 pm and you return on a boat at 10 am, so to see the Island you need 2 nights.
