Hi mrs_waqas,

Welcome to Winnipeg, This link will give you the year round temperature and precipitation.

http://www.winnipeg.climatemps.com

You will need every kind of clothing from short sleeve for our hot weather in summer to very warm clothing for our winter. As for snow - some years we just have not much snow, maybe 30 to 60 cm of snow sitting on the ground, other years we can have more than 1 metre. It is different every year! Sometimes when it snows very heavy, it can change the daily routine that day because the roads are hard to drive on, so it makes the cars and buses and trucks drive slow and sometimes it is hard to see on the highway because of blowing snow, so they close the roads until the snowstorm is over. Some days are very cold because of the wind and cold so you must make sure to dress very warm before you leave your home. It sounds terrible, but we are all fine and there are a lot of fun things to do here in the winter! I think you will enjoy it! :)

Winnipeg winters are famous for bone-chilling cold temperatures, not the quantity of snow. This applies to prairie winters in general, if you are also considering other universities on the Canadian prairies (Regina, Sasktatoon, Edmonton).

Despite the cold, there's a surprisingly large and thriving community of Filipinos so even those who're from the tropics can adapt.

Yes, you will feel the cold a lot, especially your first year. But you will all be excited to see snow.

You will need to ask a friendly person (there are a lot of them in Winnipeg) to help you buy what you will need for winter clothing, especially for the children. A local will know the best places to shop and as children grow so fast you might be able to have a lot of children's items given to you.

I have a friend here who came from Brazil to the USA first, just south of Winnipeg. She said she was in complete shock as she had never been in cold before and no one had warned her.

Hi there,

As one who has grown up here it's hard for me to know exactly how to describe winter so that it makes some sense to you. The Winnipeg Saudi Association has a Facebook page. And if you are of the Islamic faith, the Manitoba Islamic Association has one as well. Almost everything on those pages is in Arabic so I'm not sure how helpful either of those could be to you. Perhaps you can connect with others that have experienced exactly what you are now planning and it will be helpful to you. Wish you the best as you continue your journey.
