Visiting in August

First time in BC...will be visiting in mid August and have a some questions.

I would like to take the gondola up and do the half note trail. Is this trail easy? Can I get by with running shoes (eg trainers) or are trail shoes or hiking shoes a must?

During the daytime, will i encounter mosquitoes or other biting bugs on the top of the mountain? What about along the hiking trails down in the valley?

Can guests order a packed lunch from their hotel to take hiking?

Thank you for your help and any advice.

I think I found the answer to my first query reading a trip report. I'll bring trail shoes as there are some steep inclines/declines and loose gravel. Any help with my other questions appreciated.

It's Canada Day long weekend and SUUNNNNYYYY, not raining so .... Whistler folks may be up in the alpine or running businesses on one of the busiest weekends of the summer.

I don't spend a lot of time in Whistler, but when I have been in the summer I've not been bothered by mosquitoes.

You will be able to get a packed lunch from many many places. I would put the hotel last though as the cost will be more than what the local deli will charge, or from the deli department of The Whistler Grocery Store (balloon A) or IGA Marketplace (balloon B). Order it and arrange to pick it up on the day of, saves needing a fridge in your room.

Also try Hot Buns Bakery for your packed lunch.

Their stuff is all freshly made and you could contact them in advance.

Enjoy!
