Should we bring rental car or not on ferry to Victoria?

We are wondering if it is better to leave the car in Port Angeles and use public trans in Victoria?

What is the best way to get:

1. From Ferry to hotel - the Inn at Laurel Point

2. Get around downtown area to see sites

3. Travel to Buchart Gardens and back in time to

We plan to come on the first ferry of the day on a Thurs, spend one day sightseeing in Victoria, then go to Buchart Gardens and back on the ferry in the afternoon on Friday.

Any tips would be truly appreciated!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I suspected it was better to leave the car, but just wanted to confirm.

A little to add here on top of Mufti's and other's good comments. (For anyone looking at this in the future). Parking is $6-10/day in Port Angeles, depending on how far from the ferry you park. Basically, if you do the math, taking a car is an addition of about $87 round-trip for the same number of passengers (either method, pax are $34 R/T). So, when I take a group, I need to figure out what makes more financial sense. The tour bus is about $20-24 more R/T for Butchart (the public bus is $5). If you have 4 or more people going to the Gardens with a tour bus, then you break even on the R/T car fare plus a day's parking. If you have 3 or fewer, it only makes sense if you are driving to other places too or you want the additional independence of a car. (For instance, it's kind of pain to take the bus out to the lighthouse or Royal Roads/Hatley Castle - doable, but more convenient with a car.) Many of the hotels in Victoria offer free parking, but parking at the Empress and other higher-end places can go as high as $30+. Yikes!
