lower end to mid range bicycle rental

Does anybody know of a bike rental place in Victoria where they have lower end to mid range bicycles? We plan on staying in the city for about a week at the end of April. We are not avid cyclists, but would enjoy having access to bikes for leisurely day trips, they do not have to be high end bicycles, a cheap Canadian Tire version would be fine as long as it is well maintained. It seems that bike rentals usually cost more than what we pay for a car rental. I suppose this is because the bikes rented in shops are usually high end, but are there any alternatives for casual bike users?

There are only 4-5 bike rental companies in town... prices vary - hybrids run around $25.00 a day.. with mountain and road being higher in cost. The cost is lower than a car rental.. ha, at least you don't have to add on insurance. The bikes are not necessarily high end, but they will be well maintained. If you want to have a bike for the week and your flying out, why not price out the cost with the airline..if your travelling light there may not even be an additional charge.

We "still" have a blue bridge.. too bad we don't have a blue bike program...

Sometime hotels have house bikes that can be booked-why not enquire?

Failing that buying a cheapo beater bicycle on Craigslist is popular with some folks-then leave it behind for someone else to enjoy.

Thank you suzetravels, we have talked about flying our bikes out, but as we will be renting a small car in Vancouver and travelling the interior for one week before going out to Victoria, so trying to fit 2 bikes into a car sounds pretty awkward.

Thank you SamSalmon,

Those sound like some great suggestions. I will check with the hotel, if they do not have bikes, I have a son who just moved to Victoria, he may be able to find something on Craig's list for us ahead of time.

Why not check with the car rental agency about the possibility of renting a bike carrier as well. If you are heading to to the Interior.. Okanagan Valley.. biking around is the way to go. Check out the KVR, Myra Canyon..cycling around doing a vineyard tasting is a blast.

Thank you again suzetravels, that is a good idea, but the time we spend in the Okanogan will be visiting with family and friends who don't bike, so it will not work with the schedule.
