Victoria in December

I am wondering if going to Victoria for a short visit in December is doable. A friend said there was no point in going in December but we want to see the Christmas lights at Butchart Gardens. Also any suggestions for a hotel in the Inner Harbor area?

Hi travelwithchild ~

Here are some highlights of things to do in Victoria. Look into the opening hours though as they will be fairly regular and not into the evening.

Inner Harbour Causeway

Victoria harbour ferry ride, http://victoriaharbourferry.com/

Royal BC Museum – ~2 hours, royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Exhibit_Gall/default.aspx

The BC Parliament Buildings

Craigdarroch Castle

Helmcken House

Emily Carr House

Miniature World

The Victoria Bug Zoo http://www.bugzoo.bc.ca/

Abkhazi Gardens - …conservancy.bc.ca/properties/…

4 self guided heritage walks victoria.ca/EN/…heritage-walking-tours.html

I would also suggest you look in the left sidebar at Things to Do for other things that might appeal to you.

Butchart is a huge attraction at Christmas.

For a hotel around the Inner Harbour. Have a look at the following map, which shows hotels with red dots, including labelled balloons. You can then look up the reviews in the left sidebar for Hotels to see which might meet your needs and budget. There is a filter down the left side of the hotels page for budget and needs (amenities.) Have a closer look at the Royal Scot.

The Royal Scot is an excellent choice for families. We're also big fans of the Regent, right on the harbor near the Johnson Street Bridge. It's extremely convenient to restaurants and shopping. It's a little spendier than the RS, but the 1- and 2-bedroom units with full kitchen (or the 3-bedroom luxury suite) really make you feel at home.

Not sure what your budget is. However, we, too, like the Royal Scot, and we also like the Best Western Inner Harbour.

Butchard Gardens is magical for Xmas many locals make a point to go out there only at that time of year , its so pretty, and not as crowded as summer!

There are many places decorated with Christmas lights etc other than Butchart gardens - which is beautiful.

This is a great page to start out for ideas - http://promo.tourismvictoria.ca/things-to-do

- The parliament buildings are also lit up with the surrounding areas.

- Craigdarroch Castle is all done up for Christmas with tours of each room. Quite often they have carollers there throughout the season.

- The Empress Hotel has the "Festival of trees" to view and the Grand Pacific has the "Bears" on display, the Inn at Laurel Point is hosting its "Gingerbread Showcase"

- Storm watching along Dallas Road

So much to see and do - you definitely won't be bored.
