Ferry port to airport

Hello,

We will be staying at The Painted Turtle guest house in Nanaimo. We are staying at a hotel at the int airport the night before our flight home and I just wondered how we would get from the port (is there one that is best to go to if we have a choice?) to the airport?

Thanks in advance

Hi Samantha ~

Walk on the ferry at Departure Bay. Get off the ferry at Horseshoe Bay. Right outside the ferry ticket window is a bus stop for the #257 Vancouver Express. Take this bus for 40 minutes to downtown Vancouver - Georgia and Granville. Transfer with the same fare to Canada Line at Vancouver City Centre Station and take Canada Line for 26 minutes to the airport.

Transit fares will depend on when you are coming. The fare system is changing from tickets to the Compass Card by mid year.

I don't know if it would be easier to get the ferry to Tsawwassen from Duke Point or not, but you might want to investigate that option. I was thinking that you could get on a PCL bus to the airport and save changing buses, but that's only on the Swartz Bay ferry, so it wouldn't help.

Painted Turtle is close to Departure Bay and quite a distance from Duke Point. Harbour Air is a seaplane from in front of your hotel that takes you directly to the airport where you can shuttle or taxi to your hotel. Luggage weight maximums apply.

There is no public transportation to Duke Point either, so Mufti's directions are the best. And yes, the Duke Point ferry would get you closer to the airport on the Vancouver side, it is just really hard to get to Duke Point without a really good friend, or the $$$ to pay for a taxi.

The Departure Bay bus and sky train route is really straight forward. And the drivers on the blue buses are great, used to dealing with tourists all the time. There will be lots of people heading to the airport, and the bus stops very close to the entrance for the Canada line to the airport.

Make sure you have COIN to pay for the bus at Horseshoe Bay. No bills allowed, and they don't make change.
