General Vancouver area budget hotel recommendations?

Hello, we're visiting this great city for a cruise and are staying two days after the cruise(both weekdays). We have a 7 month old child, and will be renting a car both days for some sightseeing.

So we would really appreciate any value hotel recommendations! The downtown area hotels seem to be a bit expensive for our budget, and since we have a car, we don't have to be in the city. Reasonable driving distance to downtown and/or any other tourist attraction would be perfect.

What you save on staying out of town will be used up with paying for parking. have you tried the Y Hotel? It's a real hotel with various rooms categories and probably the best value. You could also look at Holiday Inn on Broadway near Oak St.

I think you will find the car a hindrance rather than a help.

Thanks. I was thinking parking at a relatively cheap garage and walking around downtown. You're talking about the YWCA hotel, right? I guess it's in within walking distance of downtown attractions?

You would be much better off to drop the car rental and spend the money you save on your hotel. With only a couple of days, you aren't going to get much further than the places that you will be accessing by transit anyway. The busses are all very stroller friendly (they "kneel" to let you wheel your stroller on to the bus and the drivers will usually request that the seats that lift to accommodate wheelchairs are lifted out of the way to accommodate your stroller.) Its also a very pedestrian friendly city with the lovely waterfront seawall paths to get around on. The car will just be a nuisance.

There are no relatively cheap parking garages. And yes the Y hotel is in walking distance and also very near transit

Al....look at Vancouver the same way as you would look at San Francisco.

You want to stay downtown.

A car is a nuisance

Downtown parking is expensive.

The huge Telus site re-do will take a couple of years.
