Vancouver Logistics

We are arriving from Seattle via the Amtrak Cascade train then have booked the Granville island Hotel. How far time wise is this? Do i need a taxi?

Then we are taking the Pacific bus/ferry to Victoria. how far from the granville hotel to the bus station time wise? again, do we need a taxi?

I like this hotel but if too far out of the way I will rebook somewhere else. Thank you, karen

The Granville Island Hotel is a great, unique little property. Stay where you are!

It's less than a 10 minute taxi ride from the train station to Granville Island. There is a taxi rank right outside the train station.

You will need a taxi to catch the bus to Victoria, but again an easy short trip.

Enjoy Vancouver!

Karen ~

You will arrive at Pacific Central Station. From there you will need a cab as the GIH does not lend itself to convenient transit. It would take about 10-15 minutes and cost about $20.

To take Pacific Coach Lines to Victoria, you need to return to Pacific Central Station, again by cab, unless the hotel has a complimentary shuttle. Get there about 30-40 minutes in advance of your bus departure to buy your ticket. It takes you right into downtown Victoria.

I have posted my thoughts about the GIH on your other thread.

If you're up for something different you can walk from Pacific Station to the ferry dock @ Science World (5 minutes) and take one of the mini-ferries to Granville Island-less $$ than a taxi and much more fun.

I was going to suggest the ferries too, but only if you are traveling light. The ferries drop you off at the market and you have to walk down to the hotel from there, but a light suitcase on wheels would make it an easy walk.

Good one, Sam, unless luggage is an issue.

Yes! If you can handle lugging your luggage around a bit it is a great idea to take the ferry to the hotel. Here's a map I like to provide so people can see the logistics, www.6717000.com/skycorp/vancouver.html

You can easily walk from the train station/bus station, (located on the far right middle of the map) to the ferry landing and same once you get to Granville Island, just walk a bit to the hotel. Great way to see the False Creek side of downtown and Granville Island.

For scale check out google maps and compare them.

Aside from getting there, the Granville Island Hotel is also a bit isolated, where you have to take some form of transportation to get elsewhere.

What is the attraction you find in the Granville Island Hotel/

We love the water, and are not big city enthusiasts. We just thought it is a pretty setting. Hopefully it is near Stanley Park. We also want to go to Gastown area. Thoughts. Thanks

From GI Hotel, walking across to the other side of GI for the harbour ferry to Vancouver Aquatic Centre, then along English Bay, Denman and into the entrance of Stanley Park, it is 4 km and about 50 minutes walk.

Map: http://goo.gl/maps/jyF33

You are going to have 1 full day in Vancouver, so you could take 2 hours to explore GI on the way to the harbour ferry, 1 hour to enjoy the seawall and beach along English Bay, 1 hour to explore Denman St and even some of the other streets in the west end, then 4-5 hours in Stanley Park before heading over to Gastown on the #19 bus from Stanley Park to Gastown for drinks and dinner. Cab back to the hotel.
