Two nights in June, 2013...suggestions?

We (a retired couple in our early sixties) will be ending our cruise in Vancouver and would like to spend a couple nights (Friday and Sat. nights) in Van before returning to the US. We definitely would like to visit Victoria, but what other Van highlights should we squeeze in? Hotel and restaurant suggestions near public transportation? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Just wandering why you are so set on visiting Victoria. It would cost you a full day mostly travelling, especially if you don't have a car.

Hotels are plentiful, what price range are you looking for?

Great city and very easy to get around. Cruise ships dock right amongst the best downtown hotels such as Pan Pacific, Shangri La, Fairmont Pacific Rim etc. Granville Island is a must visit by cab and sitting outside at The Sandpiper on Granville Island for a meal is very nice. Relaxed place to eat near cruise terminal is Carderos which is built on stilts over the water. If you find yourself in Stanley Park (much nicer than Central Park if u from New York) there is a lovely place for Afternoon Tea etc called The Tearoom or something very similar to that.

If you are only there 2 nights you wont need to venture out of downtown if you don't wish to.

Hi Sandy~

When will this be?

In Vancouver, consider Museum if Anthropology at UBC, back downtown to walk the Coal Harbour Seawalk to Stanley Park, then Denman St, English Bay. Take the bus to Gastown for the historic buildings, shopping and dinner. One day. Second day, visit Granville Island for a couple of hours, bus to Capilano Suspension Bridge and up to Grouse Mountain.

"We would definitely like to visit Victoria." Then drop Vancouver and head to Victoria on Pacific Coach Lines, for the 4 hour one way journey that includes the 1.5 hour ferry ride. Spend the second half of your first day visiting Butchart Gardens and the next morning visiting the attractions of Victoria, then hop on the Victoria Clipper, pax only, for the 3 hour journey to Seattle.

Vancouver hotel? What budget range? 3-4-5* hotel?

If you will be looking for a hotel in Vic, post on the Victoria BC forum for that.

No car needed for the duration.

Actually travelling to Seattle from Victoria as Mufti mentioned would be a great idea. Another option if you want to stay in Vancouver and not bother with a long travel time to/from Victoria and have the budget then floatplane over to Victoria. Harbour Air runs right from downtown Vancouver into the inner harbour in Victoria. 35 minutes flight. You can go there in the morning and come back in time for dinner.

Victoria really only makes sense if you have 4+ days in Vancouver. There really is so much to see and do here that the arduous journey to Victoria doesn't really make sense.

June tends to be a bit on the wet and cold side around here lately, so you would be well advise to have a fine weather plan and a wet weather plan. Most of the best things to do around Vancouver involve getting outside and taking in our spectacular scenery, which perhaps isn't so spectacular under rain clouds.

So, what do you like to do? Shop? Museums? Nature? Walk? History? Landscapes?

My vote goes to Stanley Park for one day, including the Aquarium, and then Museum of Anthropology and Granville Island for a second day.

Bumblebee beat me to it. I was just coming back to add Harbour Air. You would need to find the luggage storage place at Canada Place (unless your ship is berthing at Ballantyne Pier) as the seaplane has a 11.5 kg weight limit for luggage.

Aaaah! the title says June 2013. (Who reads titles?) Okay, you could take the plane one way in the morning, then take the 1h00 pm Pacific Coach Lines bus with its 2 hour stop at Butchart before it continues on the 5 pm ferry arriving back in Vancouver about 7h30 pm.

Your plans for Victoria depend on a couple of things: where and when you will disembark your ship. Are you flying out of Vancouver on Sunday morning or ?
