I am looking for ideas for a 3 week holiday in late July, early August 2013. I want to have time on Vancouver Island as my grandparents are interred there and would like to see some of the rockies. I have looked at Via and mountainer and the costs seem high, is it better to book these last minute?
I am happy to do flight legs one way with train as an option though no car as I have never driven in Canada.
Are there low cost options for travel with a family rail ticket?
which part of the rockies is best for scenery on Via?
One thought was to fly to Toronto, train to Vancouver, 3 days Vancouver Island and then Vancouver back to the UK. The cost of the train is putting me off though - how do locals do it or do they just fly? I will byepass the rockies is I need to but my boys would like to sleep on a train i the price is reasonable
