Public Transport from Downtown Vancouver to Victoria

Hello we will be in vancouver on our honeymoon. Is there public transport available from Downtown to the ferry terminal to Vicoria. Alternatively if we take the sea plane we will have excess baggage. Is there a place where it can be safely and securely stored until we return from Victoria

Hi there,

Check out Pacific Coach Lines website, www.pacificcoach.com, they offer transportation from downtown Vancouver over to Victoria taking you right into the inner harbour. This includes your ferry ride as well.

Hello :-) ... As it regards your luggage:

- If you are returning to the same Vancouver hotel, perhaps they will hold it for you.

- If you are not returning to same hotel, take a taxi to the Vanc. bus station and board the PCI [ferry] bus there. The bus station has lockers for rent where you can store the bags.

- Alternatively, take the luggage with you on the PCI (ferry) bus - their actually stored underneath. When you arrive in Victoria, it will be at the bus station, which also has lockers for rent.

Note: if you decide to use the lockers, be sure to check how long you can leave it. Some bus stations allow longer storage but others allow only 24 hours.

Check out Harbour Air and their luggage policy. They state on their website: "Q: What is the luggage allowance per passenger?

A: The allowable luggage per person is 25lbs. All overweight luggage will be sent over on the next available flight, free of charge."

You may not get your luggage on the flight with you, but you will get it. I suggest that you e-mail them and ask them what their policy is and if they have solutions for you.

Pacific Coach Lines direct bus is very convenient - but there is a public transit alternative if you're interested.

From downtown vancouver (Burrard St. Skytrain Station), catch the 601 bus to Ladner Exchange - from there transfer to the 620 to Tswassen Ferry Terminal. There are a few other bus connection options depending on the time you're leaving and the place you're leaving from - if you go to the Translink website (www.translink.bc.ca) and use the "Trip Planner", entering your to and from destinations, it will list your options. On a weekday the fare will be $4.50, on a weekend $2.50. The whole trip takes about 1.25 to 1.5 hrs.

On the victoria side there is a neat double decker public bus that leaves from right outside the ferry terminal and takes a scenic route to downtown Victoria. This end costs around $2.25, I think. Takes about an hour.

The whole trip on public transit is a long one, but it is cheap - I'd say its worth it if you're staying overnight in Victoria and care about costs, but if its just a day trip, it will eat up a lot of your sightseeing time, and the Pacific Coach might be the way to go.
