Stay in town or out of town?

We will be spending 3 nights in Vancouver and will have a rental car. All of the downtown hotels are expensive and charge a parking fee. I suspect the hotels in the outlying areas may be as nice and have free parking. If staying out of town, though, public transportation into town is a necessity. We will use the car to go to Lynn Canyon Park and possibly other "out of town" attactions not yet decided.

What would be a good place to stay?

Thanks for any help.

Either an airport hotel (all airport hotels are located in Richmond) - but make sure it's located next to the 98 B-line route. The 98 B-line is somewhat of an express bus that goes back and forth between Richmond (along No 3 Road), the airport, and downtown Vancouver. The Delta Vancouver Airport hotel, for example, is located right next to a B-line stop and you could get between the two in about 20 minutes. The Best Western Richmond Hotel, the Vancouver Airport Marriott, and the Vancouver Airport Hilton are located about a 10 minute walk away from the B-line (basically around the block) (you'd be a 30+ minute bus ride away from downtown). The Raddisson is located next to the B-line stop as well, but doesn't have the best reviews.

The other suggestion would be to stay at one of the Metrotown hotels in Burnaby. Metrotown is a gigantic mall complex attached to the skytrain network. The Hilton Metrotown in Burnaby has great reviews, and as long as you don't mind a 20 minute skytrain ride (think clean, elevated monorail type transport), that would be fine as well. I think there's also a Holiday Inn at Metrotown too.

You might try the Hilton at Metrotown, Burnaby. A nice hotel. (Check out the Tripadvisor reviews.)

It's right on the Skytrain route (light rapid transit line) and adjacent to the Metrotown shopping mall. They do charge for parking, but it's only $6 / day.

Another option would be the Executive Inn in Coquitlam which is right on the Burnaby border and about 1 block walk from Lougheed skytrain.. there is also an Executive Inn in Burnaby near the Willingdon Skytrain.. both stops are on the Millenium Line...BUT I think you would be as well off to stay downtown and bite the bullet for parking.. or just get a car for one day unless you are driving in from Seattle.. there are some reasonable spots in town.. and the convenience is worth the extra $$ IMO.
