What to see in Vancouver without a car in two days

Hello, we are going to spend two days in Vancouver arriving by train from Salem, OR on Saturday night ( Aug.26) and leaving early morning on Tuesday, Aug.29. We will not have a car. I understand that downtown Vancouver is very much "walkable". Can you, please, advice about other interesting "must-see" places and how we can get there via public transportation. Our hotel is on Hamilton Str. Many thanks!

You can buy a day pass for public transportation. The cost is $10.00 and is good value.

Vancouver is a very walk-able city and it certainly safe to do so.

When you leave the Pacific Central Station, look to the left and across the park and you will see the Main Street Station. You can take the skytrain from there to Stadium Station, which is very close to Hamilton Street. See the map below. The fare will be $2.85 per person and it is only one stop. You could take a taxi for a few dollars more.

As for sight seeing, there are the typical places, Stanely Park, Granville Island, Lonsdale Quay on the North Shore, it is a short 15 minute ride across the harbour. You can take the Seabus as it is called from Waterfront Station. You will get some great views of the city and of Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge.

If your into bike riding you can rent bikes and ride around Stanley Park, along the seawall, past Yaletown, and back downtown.

If it is a sunny day when you are here, you may wish to go to Grouse Mountain. There is a free shuttle bus from Canada Place to the foot of the mountain, and then a gondola ride to the top.

There are a few links below to help you. Enjoy your stay.

+1

Start from Canada Place, Convention Centre, Westin Bayshore, Coal Harbour, around Stanley Park, English Bay, and Yaletown.

Or just do Stanley Park.

World class experience, better than French Riviera and Barcelona..

Great info, we are in the same situation....thinking about going to Capillano Bridge. What is the best way of getting there from downtown area on public transport? I thought I heard there was a free shuttle? Do you recommend this as a "must-see" thing to do?

Thanks!

As for your question regarding Capilano Suspension Bridge. There is a free shuttle, it departs from Canada Place. Here is the link

https:/…

The other suspension bridge is located in North Vancouver and is in Lynn Canyon Park. Hiking trails, water falls etc and it is free. IMO I would go here rather than there. The link is below. If you decide to go you can take public transit. Perhaps a little out of the way, but well worth the trip. I you want directions on how to get there by public transit, please PM me.

Salsojo ~

There is an article about how to get to Lynn Canyon Park in the Top Questions. You need the full version to see the TQs. They are rich with information. Don't miss them.

What's wrong with posting the directions in the forums so that future readers of this thread can know them?

YVR1, Thanks for the great information and all the links. Is there anything else besides Lonsdale market on the North side we can walk to? Thanks!

Helen, there are plenty of great eateries in the area of the Shipyards Night Market. Don't know if you've seen this webpage: vancouversnorthshore.com/events-festivals/…

The Night market itself has food trucks. Here is the schedule of them for tonight. I expect this page changes truck info a little from Friday to Friday: http://streetfoodapp.com/shipyards

As well, in the first couple of blocks of Lonsdale, there is Tap and Barrel, Burgoo, Anatoli Souvlaki, The District, Fishworks, Quatro di Gusto. In the Pinnacle at the Pier Hotel, there is the lovely Lobby restaurant. Pier 7 resto is right on the waterfront.
