Tofino for kids?

Hi,

We are a family of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids age 2 yr and 5 yr) and we will be visiting Vancouver and Vancouver Island for 2 weeks. Just wondering if we should visit Tofino, whether there is much to do with young kids? We do like the beach and window shopping at shops and eating at cafes. We can't walk that far with a pram and young kids and my parents are pensioners. So, not intending to do walking trails or hikes.

At this stage we are thinking:

2 nt Vancouver

2 nt Victoria

3 nt Tofino

2 nt Parksville

2 nt Whistler

3 nt Vancouver

Hope someone can give some ideas of what we can do and whether we should visit or maybe reduce Tofino to 2 nights and stay somewhere else longer?

Thanks.

A couple of things that haven't been touched onm if you do decide to come out to Tofino/Ucluelet: this area is wonderful for kids, due to the beaches. The main thing that the kids may love out here is the Ucluelet Aquarium. Touch tanks, a "catch and release policy" and lots of exhibits at child-size heights will give them hours of entertainment. See www.uclueletaquarium.org. That being said, Parksville has tamer waves. Definately Victoria has lots to offer - the Bug Zoo is a must with kids. Enjoy the planning.

One other place the entire family might enjoy in Parksville is Morningstar Farm - home to Mooberry Wine and Little Qualicum Cheeseworks. It's very much a working farm, very kid-family with close interaction with animals. http://www.morningstarfarm.ca There is also Tiger Lily Farm which I haven't been to, but which looks to be just as charming. http://www.tigerlilyfarm.ca/

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions on places to visit. The aquarium near Tofino sounds great but due to travel distance we have decided to skip Tofino.

We are now checking out some budget places to stay. Will repost the accommodation question on the right Vancouver island forum to get some help. If anyone can help with suggestions our budget is about $250 cad incl tax per night or less? We found accent inns in Victoria but not sure if the location is good?

Thanks!

When I need a break, I usually stay at the Chateau Victoria. Right downtown and the parking and WIFI are free. Some units have balconies and some are housekeeping style and some have kitchens. Always immaculate rooms.

In Victoria, look at the Executive House Hotel. Great downtown location, full kitchens in the rooms, parking is only $4.00 per day. You could get a 1 bedroom suite with a sofa bed or murphy bed. Rates are very reasonable in the off season, not sure about the summe.
