ferry from Nanaimo to Tofino

Are there any interesting stops to make on the way to Tofino from the Nanaimo ferry? We will be traveling in June.

Port Alberni has some interesting tourism options

Cathedral Grove is right on the highway and is a mandatory stop for tourists

And then the little town of Coombs, near Parksville has some cute attractions. We've been into Butterfly World and enjoyed it, and the Coombs General Store is another one of those mandatory tourist stops. You can find it by looking for the goats grazing on the sod roof.

As previously mentioned, Coombs is a neat little stop to make along the way, not sure if the general store has the goats on the roof this time of year, but it's worth checking out!

Cathedral Grove is also a popular stop, and if you like this be sure to check out the Big Tree Trail on Meares Island when you get to Tofino where you can find some AMAZING cedars!

The scenary on the drive between Port Alberni and Tofino is absolutely breathtaking so make sure to give yourself lots of time so you aren't too rushed and can take in the sights!

Another vote here for Coombs - such a neat little place!! And the General Store has a bakery that makes the best chocolate pecan pie you'll ever taste!

Can I add Ucluelet too? And stop at one of the beaches between there and Tofino.

One of our favourite stops on the way is near the Wally Creek signpost close to the Ucluelet/Tofino junction (think about 135 kilometers from Nanaimo). The river has dug out some great channels and pools you can wade in. The water can be really quick and very cold but it is a great place to stop, sit on the rocks, have lunch and enjoy the view.

Wild horses couldn't drag me to Coombs.

Enjoy your trip!

The Parksville Beach is one of the greatest in North America, still a little cold for a swim but Feb/March/April has the annual Brant Goose migration. There's a Starbucks in town if you need a jolt.

I like the Kennedy River along the highway past Port Alberni and Sproat Lake, some gorgeous falls and formations.

Simply put, take your time and enjoy the scenery.
