Hi Lynne, welcome to the forum ~

When are you needing to do this?

There is no convenient way to do this journey, which amounts to about 5 hours, unless you rent a car.

You can get part way by public transit in this way. Go to westbound Dunsmuir St at Cambie, the first stop of the #257 Horseshoe Bay Express bus. This bus stop is about a 15 minute walk from Canada Place, assuming you are berthing there and not Ballantyne Pier. You need the first stop because it is a very busy bus and fills quickly, before it is even through downtown Vancouver. Then at HB, you walk 10 steps to the ferry ticket booth and pay your $15.50 for your walk on ticket. You need to arrive at the ferry ticket booth about 20 min ahead of your sailing as they cut off boarding pretty soon after that. You can leave luggage on the trolley for the sailing and pick it up again on the other side. The ferry ride is 1.5 hours.

At Nanaimo, you would then walk off the ferry and look for a way to do the hour or so up to Courtenay. You could look at the commercial carriers Greyhound ( www.greyhound.ca ) or Island Link Bus ( https://www.islandlinkbus.com/index.asp )

If you are doing this on a Sunday, the schedules may be less frequent than on a Saturday or weekday.

You could also fly from Vancouver harbour to Comox/Courtenay in less than an hour. The seaplane dock is about 400 metres from Canada Place pier. They allow 11.5 kg of luggage and I know if you contact them to discuss additional luggage, they may have a way of putting your luggage on an earlier flight or a later one. IIRC, they will do that, but you would need to check with them. It depends on when you are coming and how busy they are.

It is always better to work with as much detail as possible, so if you could fill those in, it would be helpful.

Most convenient is a taxi to the airport and fly into Comox airport.

See what Pacific Coastal Airlines can do for you
